About me:
I currently hold a 100% small animal position in a 3 branch, 5.5 vet practice in Birmingham. I have gained a huge amount of experience in the past 2 years while working here. My main interest lies in surgery. I have been fortunate enough to find a position where I can operate most days, so I am both confident and competent at performing routine and non-routine procedures. For a large proportion of my time at this practice, I worked at one of the busier branches, where I was put in sole charge. Here I would operate daily, doing routine ops such as bitch speys, dog castrates etc, also the odd non-routine surgery such as pyometras. More recently, after an experienced vet left the practice I have been placed in the main practice. Here I have been put in charge of hospital patients, so I've been able to improve my medicine knowledge, in addition to operating most days. While at this main practice I have had the facilities to perform more non-routine surgeries such as foreign body removals, splenectomies, pin and plate placements, limb amputations, enucleations etc.
I have recently started to do some cruciate and patella surgery following a CPD course, An Introduction to Orthopaedics. I don't claim to be expert in these surgeries at the moment, but I do plan on improving my techniques and becoming more competent at them.
Although I have emphasised my interest in surgery I do also enjoy consulting. I am known in this practice for being very organised, running on time, but not rushing clients where extra time and explanation is required.
This practice is involved in looking after quarantine kennels close to Birmingham Airport. Since becoming an OV I have had a good deal to do with quarantine animals, and passports.
